Has anyone else in the UK been getting this graphic novel series?
Recently, with 5 issues left, Hatchette Partworks quietly announced, via an update on the website, that there would be a further 60 issues.
This was after they had got people subscribing to a new 60 part series of graphic novels called Marvel's Mightiest Heroes. This now equates to £40 per month for the next 30 months. They have also moved the final part of the original 60 issues to the 63rd to be released, so you have to get 3 issues of the new range before your final issue arrives.
I am not complaining as such, I collect mine from the newsagent so I am not tied in to an awkward cancellation process. But I do think the attitude has been one of deceit. This is a shame cause it is a fantastic collection.
The original series was made up of 60 issues, with a picture along the side of them by Gabriele Dell'Otto. Now there will be 40 more 'classic' issues, and 20 more post Siege (Final issue of the original 60) The new volumes seem to have a new picture on them, or possibly a continuation of the picture.

Siege was 4 years ago? It took me a minute to figure out what you are talking about. Reprints. Dirty foreign reprints. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Official_Marvel_Graphic_Novel_CollectionWhat they have you reading is all over the place and in no way in any sort of chronological order. So an English company paid for the rights to reprint a certain number of comics for a certain amount of time. At the end of that time, after reprinting all the comics that they were allowed to reprint, the publishing company either had made enough money to buy more reprint rights (per a unit of time.) off Marvel or they did not make enough money whereafter they should have declared bankruptcy or break even and walk away. You can't call these blokes skeevy just because they are surprised to be making money selling comics in this day and age of downloads and piracy. Good for them! Looking at what's in the next collection (the above wiki link) there's a fair share of classic stuff from the 70s, which is probably cheaper to reprint than the reads from FOUR YEARS ago like Siege. I see they had you read Iron Man Extremis early on, I've recently been watching the motion comics of that which are very good for motion comics... Extremis ended so badly for Stark, so badly. Although in the cartoon that came out a couple years ago (Actual cgi animation, not a motion comic, Iron man Armoured Adventures) Iron Man meets his grandson from the Future and he says "Oh, that's just so precious, you are trying to hack my armour with Extremis 1.0. gramps, I'm running Extremis 14, so don't even bother." Okay, here's the problem with what you have going on here. It's character driven. Maybe they are giving you the best stories these characters have ever ever had, but you can't be sure of that, and best doesn't always mean origin, so you're caught flat footed. There's three ways to follow a comic. Follow the character, follow the writer or follow the artist. And you are not doing any of these. (by the way, Siege was MASSIVE, it crossed over into almost ever Marvel book for 4 months. There's at least 60 crossovers with varying relevance: Avengers: The Initiative #31-35 Dark Avengers #13-15 Dark Wolverine #82-84 Mighty Avengers #35-36 New Avengers #61-64 New Mutants #11 Origins of Siege #1 Siege #1-4 Siege: The Cabal #1 Siege: Embedded #1-4 Siege: Storming Asgard - Heroes and Villains #1 The Sentry Fallen Sun Thor #607-610 Thunderbolts #141-143.) But yes, you pay your money, you get a good read, and then your grand kids use them for colage eventually when you're not looking. No fuss, no muss.

I do buy a lot of other TPBs of various characters, mostly Marvel. I have about 3 eight foot shelves. But they are really nicely presented. As you say though, not always my choice of books. But it has given me the opportunity to read stuff I had never really bothered with, as well as some out of print stuff, for a much nicer price.
I am trying to read a few more, 'less mainstream' books, but it is getting the time too. Really enjoy The Boys and Preacher vol. 1's, but haven't picked up the rest yet.

Forgot to say, Siege will probably only be The Cabal, and the mini series. That is all that is in the TPB. Same as Secret Invasion is only the mini issues 1-8. None of the other series are in it. And that was even more wide spread than Siege I think.

The books do end up numbered in chronological order on the shelf.

No one would be publishing these books unless they cared a lot. It's a horrible way to make profit. I posted all of Pr3acher a couple months back. dwad.freeforums.net/post/2394It's not the same as the trades, or the original monthlies, or the new hardcovers which I understand as not as continuous as one would like them to be... But it does in a pinch while you're waiting to win the lottery.
